From conversation with Coach today.
Attendees: Asked to self evaluate their current ability levels based upon F1/H1. Can be asked to move to a different group at instructor request at seminar based on performance.
Some brain storming based on structures from RKC and others.
Coach Sommer: overall seminar leader.
Team Coach: Instructor of a small group for skill practice.
Assistants: Non-paid role for those pursuing instructors certification or wishing to rectify their current level (more on this)
Completing a seminar and testing at a certain level grants the student a certification as a GB F1(etc) Athlete.(working title) This is NOT a GB instructor, just a recognition the student can achieve and use.

Seminar Structure

- I'm writing up a registration email right now, so this is good to know.
- On the self evaluation, just to clairify is that expected to be done PROR to the seminar?
- How will level testing be done?
During the seminar or outside?
Will it only be at AZ seminars or others?
One set of the required reps?
- What about trainees past Foundation One?
- Will there be an additional fee for level testing at the seminar?
- Depending on how it's arranged, I could see it being a seminar perk
Yes, self eval done prior to in order to facilitate faster group sorting and training. Since everyone should have the material then it should be no problem. It also makes sure they have looked at it.
Details on the testing are not hammered out yet, we want to get this done quickly though so tell me your ideas and concerns. Currently, extra fee yes, AZ seminars only, one set required more can be requested.
If they have not tested out then they are not yet past F1. We want the testing up for when F2 comes online. Possibly making May AZ the first seminar with testing in place ![]()
At seminar and on line testing will be possible. Timing at seminar is the difficult part. We cannot bury ourselves by spending hours with the testing.
I'll make sure to include the need to determine one's level in the seminar follow up mail.
I don't have any great ideas on how to do the testing either. In Helsinki, Coach included a quick testing during the seminar, but I'm not sure that with F1 being out it would be practical.
I wish there was a way to do it during the international seminars as well.
It comes down to a time issue. Perhaps any three day seminar would work. Also depends on staff present to do the testing.
Lunch time is limited and after can run into its own problems, people staying keeping the facility open etc.
Might be a lunchtime window and also maybe one or two other windows, done on a sign up basis?
Or with the basic certification route each group could run a test at the end of each training element. Simple checklist of names for marking off pass/fail.
Perhaps a simple checklist style pre-seminar evaluation would suffice:
"Read F1 and H1 carefully and then self-test prior to the seminar. Circle the appropriate evaluation of your current strength so that you may be grouped according to ability level for the various GST basics at the upcoming seminar. Focus on quality during your evaluation. Be aware that you will be reassigned at the seminar if your evaluation is inaccurate, so please do your best to give an accurate impersonal evaluation of your current strength and mobility levels.
All personal evaluations must be received no later than one week prior to the start of the seminar.
F1 pre-seminar self evaluation:

This one would be the most efficient option all around, and could be integrated into other seminars as well.
Only draw back is would the standards be kept high enough?
Of course GB Coaching Certification testing may be done on a totally different basis, and could require the trip to Scottsdale
Let's see what Coach thinks.

- This idea has potential for both time management of the group as well as greatly increasing all of the students' focus during the individual modules if they know that a performance evaluation is forthcoming in just a few minutes time.
- Nic, how do we manage the training needs of the students who are acting as assistant coaches either due to re-certifying or doing their mandatory student coaching? In the RKC this is easy as there is only a limited amount of material to be mastered, but with GB there are multiple levels.
- How often do RKCs need to re-certify? If it is every two years, perhaps in their in between year they could be assistant instructors?
That's a good idea Coach, I will include something like that in the registration email.

- I agree on both points.
- There are two seminars a year in Scottsdale plus the others we are adding. If they want to be GB Coach's then the seminar time should focus on that. They can come back again and train.
RKC re-cert is every two years. Assistants are expected to test and pass prior to the start of the seminar weekend. Teaching staff arrive the day before for testing and to go over the weekend plan. Assistants also cannot decide on pass or fail of students, that call is for the Team Leader. They would be asked as that is part of their test, also as a teaching moment to show them something they may have missed if the call was different.
Being selected as an assistant means you do not need the hands on time learning per say though questions are of course welcome. You're there to learn to teach. A good teacher learns from his/her students. Now this does not mean you cannot opt to come and do the seminar as a participant. Base level re-cert just requires participation or assistantship. GB Coaching requires starting as an assistant and moving on to TL status and teaching.
You'd see often during breaks the teaching staff going over things outside of regular teaching time as not to take away from attendees.
We're starting with a very select teaching staff so details can be adjusted as we move on at that level also.
I believe it's very important that students aiming for our 'professional' certification, understand it's an undertaking of it's own. Certainly in my coming up in yoga, it was my responsibly to find practice time around my other duties. Assisting time was unpaid and part of the deal.
It will take us time to develop a complete standard for sure, and I hope it eventually becomes very clear and formalised.
However if assisting time is part of the standard, let's not make apologies for it. However we can also arrange it creatively if Coach feels it important that our current group needs to also train in AZ.
First we can also do seminars at Carmen's and Orench's, where their assisting would be less of a training loss. We can also get them to other seminars to assist, as we were discussing with Jeff's.
After this special group, personally I would steer towards tightening things up considerably. And also would have assisting etc be on a fee basis. Orench and Carmen have paid their dues, I doubt that will be the same for future candidates.
Assisting is a must and yes unpaid. The initial staffing will be slightly different but let's focus on what we want the long term plan to be.
There is no apology, it's part of your education process.
