How High for HBP/PE1 - Incline Pushups?

Hi Everyone,

How high should the bar/surface be for HBP/PE1?

- F1 text says "approximately hip height"

- F1 Video shows approximately knee height by the looks of things

Lower to the ground would be harder so I don't want to be cheating if it turns out its a typo and means knee height. I'm guessing it should be as demonstrated because the bar is set as low as it goes and the athlete is standing on a block to make the angle more horizontal.

A confirmation would really be appreciated :) In the meantime I'll get back to training  :D

Thank you

To me it is parkbench high, because that's what's practical. ;)

This is another one not to over think. The main point in this is to be tight and develop proper shoulder and arm action. As many new trainees will not have sufficient control of the shoulder girdle resulting in either winging and/or the shoulders excessively elevating. they will also not have the ability to 'pull' the elbows to the side resulting in flared elbows.

The elevated push up is a great place to develop good form.

You'll know if you didn't have sufficient load (were using too high a position) if when it come time to do 'regular' push ups you are unable to maintain form.

Good clarification.

Thank you for the quick response!

This is exactly why a felt it a good idea to ask. It would be a bad time to find out you haven't been working hard enough when you are at the end of a 12 week cycle.

So we want to be on the lower end (more difficult) if we can keep good form?

- Within reason, but yes

- Height somewhere from hip to knee
