Are we going to post a change log for course updates? It does create an extra step and take time but it is nice for the user.

Change log for updates

There aren't enough items of a non-technical nature to really make it necessary.
I do not feel that a 'change log' is necessary, but perhaps we could highlight text changes in a different color for a week or two.
Just when non technical changes and additions are made. People are curious, also it makes it very apparent that the support of the product never ends.
I agree with Nic on this. It does add value to the product. Though depending on the change it may be enough to notate 'updated xx.yy.zz' Changes that could cause confusion would be good to explicitly list in a change log.
One of the sites that was an early implementer of the online format sells Physical Therapy ebooks and is constantly updating them. His change log is an important part of the format.
Here is an example from his site to consider.
-Would having a change log sell more courses or be the deciding factor for someone to make the initial purchase?
-The forums do a much better job of showing life-long support of the course than a version log would. We could work to integrate the course forums more within the course.
-Do customers care more about documentation or a course that works and meets their needs?
On the last point both. Not all buyers use the forums we should be sure to cater to both for maximum customer satisfactions and word of mouth. People also always find ways to bitch about the littlest things. Is it necessary of course not but it is very nice to have. Initial purchase will not be impacted but their second purchase might be, especially if a non-forum user.
No, it does help prevent confusion.
"I swear it said 5x10r yesterday!"
Checking on that shouldn't require a forum search.

Do we have any such changes planned? I hope any programming typos would have been noted already.
No, just an example of the type of change that should be noted.
There's no need to note correcting typos and the like. Like you said, right now there aren't (m)any of these kind of changes, but being able to make them was part of the original premise behind going digital.
So, you're right, this isn't really that relevant right now.
How about instead a simple announcement overlay for the first week of a new feature or important change?
That would go along with Coach's idea. I'd consider keeping it up longer
That would work I think.
