Is it necessary to do separate ab work or will training for moves that involve the abdominals work the abs enough?

With well-rounded programming there is no need for any sort of isolation work. Many common exercises heavily involve the abs, such as the L-sit, the front lever, and leg-lifts.

if abs are a weak link, then you might need to do some extra work to build them up.  If you can do hollow hold/rock requirements and HLL with proficiency those should be a priority as not having that will set you back from achieving a lot of other skills. 

 

Otherwise, your abs will get plenty of work from training the exercises themselves
