my new rings routine 2011:

1) slow inlocate from hang, kip to planche

2) fall to swing into piked dislocate to chechi to jonasson

3) uprise fwd to straddle planche, lower through support to iron-cross

4) from cross , fall into kip to L-sit, swing from support bwd to handstand

5) lower into victorian, fall to swing into dismount: back salto straight , Stick it.

what should i do to improve it?

what are my mistakes?

do you have some tips?

thanks! :)

Kip planche, and fwd uprise to planch are not recomanded because they don't get extra credit for moving towards the element

"Kip planche, and fwd uprise to planch are not recomanded because they don't get extra credit for moving towards the element"

thanks!

what do you mean by?

"Are you joking??????? "

"Dude, seriously?"

i am serious, and not joking

by that,

you mean the victorian part?

it feels easier for me than a maltese

when i'm not tired after a routine,

i can hold it for a full second or a little more(not yet 2 seconds),and not fall from it like in the video

i'm just at the beginning, been training for a year- year and a half, and i intend to keep training intensely on rings, for at least 10 years

from what i know there is no age limit except that you need to be at least 18 years to compete

and i just kind of discovered this sport lately , after doing 12 years of training in many martial arts

anyways, i don't train for the olympics, when starting gymnastics at the age of 21 and you are 23 years old,you can't expect that,

but i do want to compete at a national level, and maybe maccabiah and europe

but probably not world championships or olympics,

anyway, i want to be a rings specialist, like yuri van gelder, not all around

anyway i just found out that a ring dismount has to be at least C, or else it doesn't count

about the kip to planche, originally it was kip to maltese, but i switched it to planche

because my maltese is somewhere between maltese and planche, so i can do planche bettter

anyway thanks,

i think that till next year, i will improve a lot,

will be interesting

thanks

I just saw the routine on your youtube channel. How long do you think it will take before you feel you'll be ready to do this routine in a competition?

there is the national championship tomorrow, that i wanted to try it there, but i forgot i need to do another insurance for that ,

so , till next year, i want to get really good with it, and compete at the next championship,

right now it's in order to get experience, not to win, although i will try to go for it, and do my best

i'll think in a year i could do it a lot better

the real competitions that i will probably want compete and win them, will probably be in 5 years from now,

till then, i just i just want to get as much experience as i can

anyway, at every training session that i do twice a week,

i learn every time a lot of new things and skills, and training techniques, and challenge myself all the time

it's really exciting and fun, so every training session my progress get accelerated at an exponential rate

today was the junior teens , and senior girls championship

tomorrow it's all senior men championship, alexander shatilov will be there, and many guests from outside the country,

and a lot of other great gymnasts too,

the crowd will be great, the energy there will be fantastic

, will be really fun, maybe you can watch on the internet

so next year, i'll be more ready

right now i want to stop training on the mushroom pommel horse, and parallel bars,

and focus only on the rings

If you want to be competitive, you first need to clean things up, no seperating legs, bending legs, it's a mental thing, it needs to a habbit.

Then you should work swings, and dismounds, when you can you that, then work you strenght :)

Quite honestly, i dont feel as if the firs two comments were helpful. I mean, i did not even know why they said that. Upon looking at your youtube channel, i think you have incredible potential, however i also think you may need to work a little longer on the streghth portion. Now, i am not judging so please don't take this the wrong way, becasue i can barley do 1 ring dip. However, it seems that you progressed past what you are actually capable of. I do respect the fatc you posted a video to show people, becasue Lord knows i can't do that unless i feel whatever i am doing is absolutly flawless, and even then its hard for me. But keep going man, i am sure if u continue with the ring training, you will be great

I can understand wanting to go into a competition to get experience. However, I think it's good that you won't be in the national championship tomorrow. I think next year will be better. By then your strength and technique will be better.

Does your gym have competition between members? Or participate in some kind of regional competition? The crowd probably won't be as big as a national competition, but you'll still get the experience of performing in front of judges and an audience.

Everybody is talking strenght here, thats not good, if you want to be competitive, SWINGS first

Basic support along with swings.

I seriosuly didn't know he didn't joke, because I already said him in other topic to go back to begining.

Other thing:

ONLY ONE person in whole world can do solid close to without and sometimes without deduction a victorian and someone who is alot bigger then Danny Rodriguez in height want's to do it in one year??? I can't do it in over 18 years of seriously training.

Wow. I never would've guessed that you would learn swings along with support before other things on the rings.

Thanks gents, for sharing some of your knowledge with us. :)

You'd HAVE to learn swings first, really, because without them you have no routine. Swing elements are REQUIRED. They are also super important because what happens if you fall out of an uprise or a handstand? You might rip your shoulders apart if you can't swing.

As for the OP, you are trying things that are way beyond you. I think working feet-supported inlocates will be a good start, you're close but you honestly don't have the strength for the real thing yet so just spot yourself. The swing elements will add a lot of strength, and working the BtGB MPPu will help tremendously with your kip, which isn't really good enough yet but not TERRIBLY far off.

You're probably a year or two out from having a truly solid planche on rings if you take your time and focus on strength work more than practicing your routine. You are definitely trying stuff that is way out of your strength league for now, but with a few years of dedicated work you can probably pull that routine off decently. Just don't get crazy.

My suggestions are to work on Yewkis, Front pulls, Reverse Yewkis and reverse MU for pulls and XR HSPU, XR tuck planche push ups, planche dips, straight arm press from support to planche variation that you can do with a hollow body, and tons of band work. I do recommend some weighted PB dips and also unweighted XR Bulgarian dips if you can do them correctly.

That stuff will really take you far. I also HIGHLY suggest that you start working from the beginning in Coach's Elbow Prep for Iron Cross series.

i do work on cleaning things up,

if you will notice,

on the azarian try video my legs were open all the time

on this video they are less open,

but i still working on it to be a lot cleaner, it will take time to change the habit

i think i'll get back to the basic, and start everything from the ground up,

swings , inlocate, dislocate, and giants, and handstand, are the first skills i need to improve

when i shot the video it, it's not to show other people, but, it's for me to see and analyze where there are errors that i'm unconscious of, and fix them, shoting a video of yourself and watching it, is a great way to improve almost any skill, because you can see it from a different perspective

i'll go next year, there are only the national championships, this sport only got poplar at israel, only for the last couple of years,

because of shatilov, before that, there was only soccer and basketball

but i'll think it is going to bee more popular in the next 3 years

like i mean, i already see the next generation of gymnasts that will compete 10 years from now,

so it's growing

about the victorian, i said 3 years,

and i'm alot smaller then he is:

he is 161 cm ,i'm 155 cm

he is 57 kg , i'm 43kg

he is 26 years old, i'm 23

and i didn't said without deduction , this will take some time,

i mean doing it so that it count as a victorian with minor deductions

what is feet-supported inlocates?

what is BtGB MPPu ?

what are Yewkis?

about the kip i need to get my legs almost touching the head,

almost there in terms of flexibility,

about the technique, and the height of the hop,

it will probably take a few months to improve it

what i did before,an half a year, is to focus only on strength first, and crosses,

this is how i started,

so only now i learn proper swings, which got a lot better then what they were at the beginning,

but they have a lot of things to improve,

yeah, i know i sometimes sound crazy,

but i do know the dedication and the amount of work that is needed to be done, in order to achieve it

and will put the time for it

usually when i train , i train on skills and only skills,

and not putting time for conditioning, as i'm getting most of it from the skills training,

anyway, thanks,

i will go back to the basics, and work hard on correct swings

and see how it goes,

really appreciate your help

thanks

You'll get hurt getting your strength from skill training. It happens to everyone who tries that. It WILL catch up to you, AND you won't make the progress that you should.

If you don't know those abbreviations you need Building the Gymnastic Body, grab it from this site's store. It's 44 USD. You will need that to know all the exercises we recommend.

thanks, will take notice on it

anyway, there was national championship today combined with half-europe championship at the same time/place,

with Croatia, Belarus, Cyprus and Greece

and with a judge from the world championship in japan

with alex shatilov who won the all around(even while he was injured in the finger), alex hamudis, kfir wiess, filip ude, dmitry Kasperovich and many more

seeing filip ude doing circles on the pommel horse was really fun, he has a unique style of doing circles, where he does them really straight and with the free hand he puts really high like he is saying hello, and returns it really fast,

anyway, filip ude is really hardcore beast, really really good

also watching them train and prepare for the competition was really interesting,

learned some really cool stuff from dmitry Kasperovich, for training on the rings, with latex bands,

maybe i'll shot a video, to share how to do it

anyway was really fun, great energies, and great crowd

next year will be good too

Umm, whenever you get off your pipe dream you might learn something from some of. Until then, mail us what you are smoking because it must be pretty good stuff to leave you that disconnected from reality. In the meantime you seem to be enjoying your gymnastics or you are just trying to piss us off.

Seriously, your cross attempts would not even get credit with huge deductions as would the victorian and the swing skills you listed.

That isn't a swing to HS. That requires straight arms or maybe a slight bend. It was more of a press to something that wasn't a HS and you put your feet on the cables which is another deduction.

Too many of your swings don't do anything besides needing A LOT OF REPOLISHING.

Bare in mind, Gregor is a World class Rings Specialist and apparently you are not paying attention to a word he has said in this and the previous thread.

I don't think so. you had diffrent trainings dedicated to achieve all basics. Basics are the hardest thing to learn.

So without basics and all things you don't see and are probably missing....

i love gymnastics

i know that i'll need a lot of training

many, many years

and i am listening and paying attention to gregor,

i'm getting back to the basics, learning swings first

anyway, thanks for being honest with me

I did not mean to infer you were smoking anything. It was a sarcastic remark which sometimes are not understood well in verbage or across different cultural backgrounds.

Again, please don't come to us asking to critique a cross or victorian that are not really there yet.

@Dennis.

I thought the post was necessary. It could have been done via PM possibly but this is the second time public post. A harsh lesson was required, imo.

And I wonder why I'm called a hardass at the gym.
