Kevin Easton
Without getting into all the details..... My family has been blessed with some of the least flexible shoulders in the history of man kind, specifically shoulder flexion. Are there some shoulder flexion stretches you can recommend? This is one that I know of and what I see my kids doing at gymnastics or a variation of this: Is there any other ones you can suggest?
Alessandro Mainente
HI Kevin, it depends on the goal, the type of shoulder flexion stretch you can do depends on the goal. flexion for handstand is different from flexion for a back handspring. Said that a bridge is a superior type of shoulder flexion.
Kevin Easton
Back hand spring specifically
Alessandro Mainente
The bridge is more suitable. pay attention that if your kid has a specific type of spine conformation she will never be able to open the shoulder completely. is very unnatural to see tight kids (since I coach gymnastics, i know the average mobility). Coach Sommer
Hello Kevin, Athletically it is much better to have naturally tight shoulders than naturally loose. Naturally tight shoulders are usually ‘strong’ and naturally loose shoulders are generally ‘weak’. Tight shoulders I can correct with proper training, loose shoulders will almost always (there are a VERY few exceptions) remain relatively weak. The Thoracic Bridge and Handstand One courses have the shoulder mobility exercises you are looking for. Yours in Fitness, Coach Sommer
