200+ pound Iron Cross ?

Recommended Posts

Charlie Reid

Are there any folks out there that have achieved an Iron Cross on rings that is over 200 pounds? I'm ~210 and have recently acquired about a 10sec straddle side lever, but always curious to see what the big guys out there have done in the GST world.

I don't know any big guys that big doing cross (not to say they aren't any!). But Side lever is peanuts compared to cross. The stress on the joints just doesn't compare!

Same as Julian. Weight distribution (towards shoulders in bigger guys ) is also significantly more in the athletes favour in side lever

Somewhere on the forum is a video of Andreas Thorkildsen, Olympic Champion in the Javelin, doing iron cross and iron cross pulls at 6' tall and a bit over 200lbs.

I found the link to Thorkildsen's video, but it no longer works :(

Thanks for sharing. That's damn impressive to watch. Also found this video of Andreas doing his GPP work. Amazing body control, mobility and end range strength. Especially for a non-gymnast!
