Jared Hallett
My understanding is that at the bottom of a pushup the shoulders are retracted but not retracting. The protracting muscles are activated to prevent a (bad) stretch on the pecs/sternum. Is this accurate? Thanks.
Alessandro Mainente
The shoulder blades retract naturally if you want to reach the floor. the serratus anterior should be already strong to stabilize the scapulae on the ribs cage. the exercise has too low intensity to produce an overstretch on the chest or in the sternum. 1
