Hi every one,

Just one question for my curiosity, i see many gymnast with impressiv shoulder striation, almost every rings specialist have this type off physique.
How do you explain this developpement ? Isometric work ? Density muscle ? Wath is your tips for achieve this goal in bodyweight training ?

Best regard

Low body fat even without the hypertrophy you will see striation Swann, although gymnasts have the most impressive and functional physiques out of all sports (in my educated opinion).

Is true that is the two most important factor but i see many pro IFFB with bigger shoulder than gymnast and they have no striation ( like jay cutler for exemple ). Some people have very little shoulder and striation too.
When i do rings i have striated pec and anterior delt but my medial delt look flat even with a low bodyfat and i don't now why.
Maybe  some water retention on my medial delt ?

I agree with Alessandro there are no secrets to striation. It is simply low body fat coupled with Hypertrophied muscle. The leaner you are the more striated you will appear.

When Jay Cutler is offseason, he may not have striations, but when getting ready for contest, he has. Low body fat is the secret. Even I (a girl) have striation on my shoulders when I get really lean, and I have no big shoulders, really. Also, they (not gymnasts, the bodybuilders) manipulate their water under the skin to make it look much better and leaner and more striated.

it can be but also the type or training which is done. when you do not see fibers it is usually related to the amount of water you have locally, if you look to helmut strebl you can see how his body tends to be extremely striated. controlling the amound of na+ it is the key but it is much more hard if you take a lot of different steroids.

Anyone who has well developed deltoids with very lowbodyfat can have this look.

Helmut strebl is the ultimate shredded model of all time but i think he take many chimical help.
Maybe  my level off fat is too high but if is wtaer retention, how can i recognize it and i can remove ?

I join a pics for better opinion.

Thx for all your answer

Hey Swann,

The best place to start is by making modifications to both your diet and physical training. Use the starting GST courses (Fundamentals, Foundation One, and Stretch) and our Thrive nutrition program to start mastering your exercise and nutrition basics.

two kinds of hypertrophy from what I recall

myofibrillar hypertrophy - denser and stronger muscle (from functional strength)

sarcoplasmic hypertrophy - bloated, soft and useless muscle ("aesthetic" purposes)

If you want to look like a gymnast, you must train like one ;)

Again I am with everybody here. There is no secret to striated muscles. Dense, full, hypertrophied muscles and low body fat. The manipulation of water also adds to this. Usually when people are looking at olympic gymnast on the rings they are looking at someone who has 15+ years of training behind them.

Thats a lot of hard work spent of many years. As Leo said " If you want to look like a gymnast, you must train like one". And then do that consistently for a long period of time.:)

Those Men gymnast definitely have well developed upper bodies, are their lower bodies equally developed?

Usually not, since the legs are mostly involved on power movement that are performed with a intensity which is by far lower than what it is necessary to promote hypertrophy.

Your remark about different form off hypertrophie attracts my intention, in fact i look bloated on my medial shoulder area however i do only bodyweight training and most off time for strenght like planche and iron corss training for competition.

.First i will check my diet but  If i want to gain density on my medial delt do you thinks some isometrics lateral elevation could work ( for 20 30 sec echec) in addition off my strenght training ?

Thx for all your knowledge

the first thing to change the hypetrophy it is the diet which does the biggest part. lateral raise will never give you enough mass if you deltoids are not strong enough. strong enough means to do at least 25-30 wall handstand push up.

Wow i thinks a can do 20 handstand push up nose to floor max. You precognise high rep for myofibrillar hypertrophie ? Can you  explain why ? I always read it is for endurance-lactic training, i never really test this type off workout.
I always do  handstand push up but i choose a variation for do 5 to 8 rep ( ring handstand push up for exemple) for this reason i wanted add some isometric isolation work.

the reason it is simply that if you do not have very strong front and lateral delt all the effort it taken by the upper traps and supraspinatus, in this way you will never work specifically on delt. usually in my gym when I have personal training session for bodybuilders I NEVER insert lateral raises if you cannot perform a barbell shoulder press with almost bodyweigth.

I can perform barbell overhead press with my bodyweight, i can do 8 10 rep off box handstand push up ( hand on my shoulder ) and 6 7 clean rep off wide ring hanstand push up.
Wich type off benefit can i have with high rep training on my muscular density ?

For you, Swann, the purpose would not be to increase muscle density but to prevent injury, improve range of motion in your joints, and better the quality of your connective tissue.
