Flooring

Hey Everyone,

I'm working on buying some mats for my garage right now and I've narrowed it down to either a 1-1/4" thick or a 1-5/8" thick Tatami mat.  I'm using these for GST and movement work with no grappling.

Is there much of a difference between those thicknesses?  Or is the cheaper the better?

Thanks,

Max

Hi Max,

At a minimum go with the 1-5/8".  If available, I would recommend bumping up to a 2" thick.

Hello, I'm wanting to build a small space in my basement for home gym Gymnasticbodies training. Which type of flooring do you recommend I lay? I see this blue colored floor frequently in the GB educational videos for the foundation training program. What type of material is that blue stuff? Is it laid on top of concrete? Will it allow you to do floor work as well as handstand work without being too soft or hard? Or should i keep a section of the room with just hardwood? Thanks

It depends on the workout. for example, if I have to put pressure on m knees or on my back i prefer a tatami, if i need to do pushup or handstand maybe a hard surface is better.
