Introduction and New Beginnings

Hi, everyone. I started the GB programs back in August with my eyes on the prize of the final poses: straddle planche, manna, etc. So I went through the motions, followed the templates thinking “I just have to do this so I can get to the next exercise.” After “making it” to some of the second and third elements, I’ve realized that I didn’t properly prepare my body at all. While I have been making some strength and mobility gains, I’m worried that continuing in this way will only promote imbalances in my body and prevent success in the long run.

Like many others I’ve seen, I’m starting back from the beginning and doing it right this time. I’m regressing to PE1 for all progressions and I’ll be studying these exercises and watching videos of myself. I’ll be posting form checks and being more active on the forums. I want to truly master all of these elements before moving on. I want to master my body.

Since this is an introduction for me, I’ll give a little background on myself. I’m 23, 6’2”, 138lbs. I’m about to graduate with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I work part-time as a programmer. I have the typical deficits that come with people who sit at a desk all day, so I’m focusing on those. My fitness background is entirely encompassed by band. I’ve been with a few indoor percussion groups and did one season of DCI. I marched at Spirit of Atlanta in 2013 where Chris Garay actually taught me how to run properly. Since I’ve gotten too old to march, I’ve been looking for some way to stay active. GST with Gymnastic Bodies seems to be a great fit for me. I’m looking forward to interacting more with you all.

Welcome to the forum Ian,

you're doing the right thing! Following the correct form and taking care of you imbalances first will make the ride smoother and faster.

One more think, don't give up when things will get though :)
