# of reps to start FBE's with

I just want to get this clear:

 

The first edition of BtGB says that the athletes operate at 70% of max capacity with basic strength moves (FBE's), and that you should use 3-5 reps for the sets.

 

So is this correct: suppose you want to start with 3 reps per set, do you pick an exercise in which your max # of reps is 5? 70% of 5 is 3.5 so you would start with 3 or 4 reps, some told me 3 is better or more recommended.

 

Is this how it is?

 

And if you want to start with 5 reps per set, do you start with an exercise you can do 7 max reps with?

You can design your workout routines with that train of thought in mind.

 

You can also start doing a fbe with 70% of your max and work your way up to a goal in mind.
